had it been another industry besides autos (of course what other mfg industry IS there in the US- but anyway...) I think they would have gotten their money ... the congressional leaders from the west coast really don't like the autos. GM has sued CA multiple times, remember that whole electric car smashing incident, and the autos were responsible for the rejection of the cafe standards for CA and the 16 other states last year. I thought Barbara Boxer's head was going to explode when that decision came down.

Now a year later all these states that GM has pissed off for so long are asking for a congressional bailout, with CA taking a prominent role in congressional leadership. Whoops.

And Dingell losing his house seat to none other than Waxman this week was the coup de gras. Apparently Pelosi arranged that. Hope detroit is ready to smash the SUVs and roll out the electric models en masse.
