There was a great show on a rerun of science Friday on NPR today, about electric cars, the bailout, and the whining from the Detroit management.

Tesla already HAS a plug in electirc car. It's super expensive, because it's a boutique car, like a Lamborghini. They actually buy Lotus Elise bodies on Lotus frames and suspensions to make the cars. Why not make Detroit partner with them and make everything for them but the powerplant and other special parts?

Also brought up on the show was Mini Cooper, which is going to be selling a hybrid version of the Mini that gets 100 mpg in 10 months. If Mini Cooper can do this, why can't Detroit?

Then, there are about 7 companies that are converting Prius's to plug-in, that get anywhere from 100-150 mpg. Why not give them some money?

Detroit is just completely lame and a bunch of losers. They should be forced to shed their management and go through structured bankruptcy.
