40,000 show up for free (U-Pick) food?

BC, that is scary.

Colorado?

400 people would be worthy of a news byte.

4,000 would be a national story.

40,000... ?

I wouldn't have believed it, if I didn't read the
article you linked.

Churches and food pantries are running out of food in
my area. It's been on the local news, along with pleas
from the Salvation Army, Homeless Shelters/Missions etc.

(people, it looks like it's really tough out there, please
give if you can... and it looks like food is what is needed
most. I know the markets are down hard, but it's really
important this year, that those of us who can... do give,
and give as much as we can.
)

This market crash happened fast. But, it doesn't seem
possible that in a state like Colorado, that 40,000 people
are in that much of a need for food?

And it's not like it was a free give-away at a grocery store,
it was a U-Pick it from a farm?!?!

That's really shocking.

Is it that many of us are focused on the market news and
we're "missing" just how fast the rest of the economy is
sinking?

I live in the industrial midwest, and it's hurting... bad.

But, 40,000 people turning out for food?

Can you imagine 6-12-18 months from now, if the velocity
of this economic collapse accelerates?

I don't think I'm out of touch... and it is BAD where I'm
at in SW Michigan/Northern Indiana. The RV industry has
basically shut down, the auto supplier industry (VERY big in
my area) is also in shut down mode. And while shopping center
traffic is noticeably lower, I was in a Best Buy 2 weeks ago
and it was packed. I was really surprised how busy it was,
but maybe it's all teens buying ipod's, and guitar hero,
instead of the parents buying plasma TV's and home theatre
systems?

Are things really getting that bad... food runs?

Comments on what you are seeing in your area people?
