Inode already posted a link where some guy ran an experiment with underinflated tires. The difference in gas mileage wasn't very significant.

Of course, there are better reasons why you should always keep your tires inflated. Number one is safety. Number two is premature tire wear.


Number 3 it reduces gas consumption, Inode's link notwithstanding.
