Sim also said the growing demand in the U.S. for personal computers that retail for under US$1,000 could also boost Creative's sales.

'What (the PC manufacturers) are providing will be basic multimedia functions,' Sim said, adding that such a situation presents opportunities for customers to purchase better speakers, DVD -ROM drives, graphics cards and soundcards - all of which Creative markets.

While Sim acknowledged Intel Corp's (INTC) intention to move into the sound-generating market as a threat, he added Creative currently hasn't any significant competitors.

'The Intel threat is generic to the whole industry,' he said. 'But we don't have any significant competitors. Everyone is trying to get into our market...so, we have to push ourselves.'

Meanwhile, given the company's cash position has strengthened substantially to US$463 million - double the level last year, Sim said the company is considering investing in new technology, entering into an alliance with another company or purchasing a business. He said, however, that he had no concrete plans as yet.
