Jesus preached being a good shepherd to the animals, and St. Francis of Assisi picked up on that made it his life's calling, compassion not just for the top of the food chain (people) but the whole chain. Because when the bottom rungs of the chain die, so eventually do we. The biggest problem I have with the deluded religious right is their alliance with polluters, over-developers and the weapons industry. It's as if they want the world to end. War, pollution, extinction, etc. That's one of the main reasons they are not real Christians. You have to walk the walk, you can't just talk the talk. Love thy neighbors and all God's creatures. Not just love yourselves.
