How do you win afganistan?

Jack Keane engineered the win in Iraq and it is my understanding that he believes a similar strategy can be employed in Afghanistan.

However, it is tactically different -- mostly because winning over the "people" is a more difficult proposition. Keane recognized that it is necessary for our troops to live amongst the people to develop trust and relationships with them, which would eventually turn the situation in Iraq -- rather than a daily retreat to the nearest FOB. He was right.

In Afghanistan that is more difficult because of who the people are, the geography, etc. -- but the same concepts will apply. They just have to work out a tactical solution to it, and they need more troops -- which will become available as Iraq winds down.

The key thing is that they have to allow Keane and Petraeus to call the shots. Obama lacks experience, and frankly, has his hands full.

My biggest concern is that he'll shut out Keane. If he does, Afghanistan could definitely drag on until we a more experienced person in the presidency.
