I sent Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin notes about Geithner when his confirmation hearing was going on weeks ago.

Debbie was kind enough to finally take time out of her busy schedule to reply to me today.

Thank you . . .

. . for contacting me about the confirmation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. I understand your concerns.

As you may know, Secretary Geithner was sworn in as Secretary of the Treasury on January 26, 2009. While I understand your opposition to his appointment, I feel he is the most qualified person to help solve the enormous financial problems facing our country. He has served as the chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank in New York, and has previous experience serving in the Treasury Department for three separate administrations beginning in 1988. Secretary Geithner brings the kind of talent and experience to the Treasury Department that will help lead us out of this financial crisis and protect taxpayers' money. However, as a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I will continue to monitor his performance as Treasury Secretary and make sure his policies are in the best interest of the United States and Michigan.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.

Isn't it nice to know Debbie is going to stay on top of it and will be looking out for our best interests?
