I live in a condo development which does not allow generators But the only extensive outage I have had to live through down here was a 5 day shutdown in the wake of Hurricane Francis a few years ago. A very unpleasant experience to put it mildly even without bitter cold to worry about. Took a nasty fall while attending a concert yesterday. But survivor that I am I was not seriously hurt -- just battered and bruised a bit. Still from now on I will be EXTRMELY careful to avoid falls of any kind. You better watch out you don't slip on snow and ice.
