I don't know that is always the case. For example, I switched to CFL lightbulbs and they are a better deal than incandescent ones over the long run. With investment and economies of scale sun power will be at grid parity, so it won't cost more than coal.

The problem with you kind of thinking is that it assumes 1) today's prices are what they will always be, which ignores economies of scale, and 2) that technology will never improve. Neither of those assumptions is realistic.

LOL... guess it depends on who you know... all sorts of "alternative energy people" I know do all sorts of things to reduce their consumption, pollution, etc. What a dumb comment.
