There was a lot of that, but that particular person did manage to get pulled from our platoon and ended up in a newer series behind us in training. Four platoons are in a "Series" that goes though training together and compete with each other in a variety of ways. Our platoon was organized with six billet holders with special jobs. My job as secretary was essentially a clerk for the drill instructors. Another perk I had was always being first in the chow line and the squads would rotate their order entering the mess hall and at least one drill instructor would be last. When he stood up after eating, the meal was over for everybody. Recruits aren't given very long to eat, so being first was nice. The other 5 billet holders were the "Guide" and his 4 "Squad Leaders" that were selected by the drill instructors. I never wanted their jobs. Any time a recruit messed up, their individual squad leader and the platoon guide would be punished along with them so they took more interest in the recruits they were responsible for. Punishment usually consisted of playing in the dirt doing exercises and many times also included the entire platoon.
