I was two feet from one two days ago. I went to the aviary here, and they've got several eagles of all types, all unable to fly from injuries. Eagles seem to be staring at you when they look at you.

I had an encounter with a really big wild golden eagle one time. I was touring through Kodachrome Basin State Park south of here, rounding a blind corner, fast, on my motorcycle, when I surprised the eagle eating some roadkill in the middle of the road. It launched into the air, glaring at me with what seemed like the purest hate, and I passed just under it's talons.

Again, eagles should not be killed. I don't know if you have ever been up close and personal with an eagle but their majesty is not to be believed.

Once organized a white water canoe trip down the Flambaugh (sp?) River in N Wisconsin and Eagles followed us for two days. Also saw the northern lights, almost got killed by a tornado camping on a cliff and capsized in violent rapids and my canoe ended up wrapped around a bolder like tin foil. Lots of fun....
