When I got off lookout in 1962 I could not even talk to another person without saying 10-4, and the rest of the ten code, especially on the phone. It took me a couple of weeks to get over it.

Nowadays they do not even use the ten code, preferring instead to use plain language. They say "copy that" instead of 10-4, which has one more syllable but is more comprehensible.

I was trained to keep radio transmission to a minimum so essential communications could get in edgewise. Later generations of young people seem to want to jabber on the radio. "Hey, I saw a deer cross the road," etc., and for an old salt it is very annoying.
