In this case it was the piece on the Whitman Massacre, which happened in my state: • 1847 - Whitman Massacre: Missionaries Dr. Marcus Whitman, his wife Narcissa, and 15 others are killed by Cayuse and Umatilla Indians, causing the Cayuse War. That happened about 5 miles down the road from where I live now.

The Diaries of some of the early missionaries and pioneers are very interesting as you know.....including Narcissa Whitman's 1838-1847 Diary... pbs.org Plus a couple more places that tell of the massacre (from the view of their daughter) gesswhoto.com and more articles that might interest Smithee... over-land.com
