No january effect this year? Well, we also had no santa claus rallye, so far.

Nonetheless, I am putting small amounts of cash in a list of 25 smallcap candidates. The cash held by those companies dwarfs their market cap in total.
We will see how that goes. I expect that this year results will be similar to January 2002 results.

Sorry that I didn't create a new thread for Jan 2009.

I didn't screen for candidates last month, partly because the free screening tools I was accustomed to using have vanished from the web.

I'm guessing that tax loss selling was minimal in December 2008, and that there will be little corresponding bounce in tiny stocks January 2009. That's because I'm guessing that losses were so heavy in most individual portfolios in 2008 that most people had net losses already and didn't any more for their tax purposes. But of course I might be wrong.
