True. Laissez faire has proven to be exactly what it always was in the books: might makes right, only the strong survive. And yet, our country was built on a foundation to provide the maximum good for the most people. To accomplish that, we have created a system of class mobility with a thriving middle class. If we eliminated the progressive tax structure and deregulated everything, then within 30 years, we'd be Russia. The current Republican stalwarts don't understand economics well enough to forecast that inevitable result of concentrating all the country's wealth in the hands of the very few. A thriving middle class equals a thriving Democracy. I hope we never forget that lesson. Our way of life depends on it.
