I take you at your word when you say investing in alternative energy is a maybe and "would wreck the economy".

I don't agree with that, because that is reminiscent of the same folks who thought the Internet would wreck their businesses, instead of embracing the change and expanding their profits. But I understand your reticence to change. Change is hard, especially on the old industries that are marked for a slow death.
