I agree. I think folks on this thread are looking at the dustbin of history and thinking that Elon Musk is just another would-be car maker. But as with everything in Silicon Valley, it's the people that make the difference. Musk is anything but the typical entrepreneur. It's not just the deep pockets that makes this guy successful.

Anyway, we know GM, Ford, and Chrystler are all going full out to develop EVs and they have more resources, but also a hell of a lot more overhead. Who do you bet on? Right now, there is no clear cut, obvious choice. If I were our gov't, a $400M bet on Tesla, along with a $25B bet on the Big 3 seems just about right in terms of distribution of risk.
