I think in the short run if the economy had remained okay there would have been a strong trend toward accelerating purchase of small cars, and if fuel continued upward a combination of demand destruction and a softening economy because of high prices would have perhaps caused a milder version of what we are seeing today. In the long run, if we really are at peak oil, well that's a different story...
