US STOCKS-Market cuts gains after grim GM sales

NEW YORK, Dec 2 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks sharply pared gains on Tuesday after General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) posted a 41 percent slide in November auto sales, compounding investors' worries about the fate of the embattled U.S. auto industry.

The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was up 67.06 points, or 0.82 percent, at 8,216.15. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was up 10.45 points, or 1.28 percent, at 826.66. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was up 17.51 points, or 1.25 percent, at 1,415.58.

Earlier, indexes had risen by more than 3 percent.

All I can say is that a person who cannot see that the UAW is the reason the Big 3 are in the shape they're in lacks a fundamental understanding of how a business makes money.

The UAW is A reason, not the THE reason. Management signed on to every contract negotiated by the UAW. Are you for shitcanning contracts, as long as they benefit labor?

Lifetime health care and a decent retirement were part of the Detroit package, and bought them a lot of hard work and loyalty over the years.
