I did much the same thing with my mother in her assisted living facility. Dining room wasn't crowded and the food was fine. I eat most holiday meals there with her and have never been disappointed. We had over 3 hours of being together, remembering Thanksgiving meals way in the past, and essentially wearing her (and me) out completely. A good time.

What a great thing to do....I'm sure the children's grandmother really was happy....and in the years to come, the kids will be most appreciative too....

I think the worst fear for the elder is the lonesomeness.....I know it would be for me! Years ago, before I had kids, I used to go to the area nursing home and help write letters or read to some of the folks there.....
