The figure was derived by adding up the salaries and benefits of its current employees along with the pensions of its retirees, then dividing by the number of current employees.

The way the figure is being bandied about, however, makes it seem like it's all going toward current employees.

Still, someone has to pay the cost of retirement benefits. And if it's going to be the Big Three, then they will have to make up for their higher labor costs by producing better cars than the competition.

Of course, liberals think that the government should have to cover the costs of retirement and health care. Cause you know, government always represents a limitless source of funds ...
