The Chesapeake seems to be the one breed that isn't destroying itself. Not much good for upland birds but a hellish good duck dog. Were I still a duck hunter that is likely the way I'd go.

My shop foreman has a 3 year old lab that is an incredible upland dog. He bought it out in ND from a noted breeder who doesn't give a rip about show and breeds specifically for hunting. That would be another option.

Alas we are travelers these days and a dog just isn't a part of our life anymore. Not fair to them the amount of time it would be kenneled.
