Review after review shows Hyundai's problems are behind them. However, they have the unfortunate situation of competing directly against Japanese makes, which have raised the bar over the past decade or so.

By the way, Hyundai's cars were indeed that bad when they first came to America. I remember in college, a friend of mine had a Hyundai Excel. Wow, it was quite an experience riding in that jalopy down the potholed streets of Manhattan. Felt like the whole car was held together by a single loose bolt.
