What was her daughter's English like? Hispanic lady was insisting in English as good as mine on having her daughter in a bilingual class. Oregon just had that one on the ballot (M58) which was going to force English sooner (IIRC the measure was sponsored by Bill Sizemore, a rightwing kook). It went down to defeat. Again, I don't have much sympathy for people who encourage giving their culture away for short term profit for a few % of them, but bitch about the consequences. If they don't like the consequences, then don't set the train in motion.
