That's cold. So all the people who made a living from it count zilch? Most of them would have made a living in other ways. And the freed up capital would have allowed other people who are unemployed, under-employed (part time when they want full time), or very poorly paid, to make money. Net employment and net compensation for employees would probably have been higher without the capital destruction. So counting the effects on workers, just strengthens the case against subsidizing such destruction.
