Would you buy a car from, say, BMW if you thought they were going bankrupt within two months? Would you pay big bucks for a five year unlimited airline ticket from an airlines that was in chapter 11?

You do understand that under Chapter 11 the bankrupt entity continues to operate pretty much as normal?

It is clear that the Court would simply wipe out the union contracts that caused the problem in the first place to make GM a leaner organization and put them on equal footing with their competition. Ultimately, this is what is going to happen.

No, I wouldn't, chapter 11 or not. Please produce a link of evidence that anybody buys a 5 years unlimited ticket from any airline, chapter 11 or not, these days.

Until you do that I would call your highly hypothetical bluff example right here.

As for the BMW question, in Germany bankrupt means over, done, gone for ever. Nobody would buy a car from a company in full liquidation. That said, my answer is no.

Would I buy a great car at very favorable conditions from a Ford under reconstruction while operating under chapter 11 protection from creditors and the UAW unions?
Yes, indeed I would.
