Considering that the market share for all electric cars, or even plug-in hybrids in the US (and in most other countries) is totally insignificant, that's a bit premature.

The new plug-in hybrid designs like the Volt haven't had success yet, and even if they do achieve enormous success (which is questionable), they still use gasoline.

Eventually all electric cars will probably take over almost completely. But eventually could be a long time from now. The transition hasn't even really started in force, let alone become something that's irreversible.
