That is a problem but there is a solution. Inductive coils in the ground and a coil underneath the car chassis. Just like a transformer steps up or down voltage in an ac circuit. It could be done without physical contact.

But there are solutions that are available that would work.

Don't worry Tim when the EV revolution takes hold their will be plenty of places close to your car for a fill up.
We will see 30 amp services springing up all over the place.
The other wonderful thing about EV's is that most of these cars will be charging up over night,
A majority of the cars are charging during night time hours, the time when the grid needs to get rid of power.
