I have no real beliefs with respect to gold. Not to start a fight, but as many philosophers say, gold has no intrinsic value, just the extrinsic and voluble value placed by the buyers – desperate or calculating. I do accept the value that others place in their theories and religions, and the prices they are willing to pay to defend them. I watched Helca Mining drop from $10 to 1$ while the commodities were touted, and I couldn’t resist buying at $1. Same is true for NGD and I bought two tranches at 90 cents and 81 cents per share. This is money I can afford to lose and I’m prepared to hold the shares for several years to see how different theories work out.gold is a bit more than a theory. dark matter is a theory. gravity is a fact. apples dropping from trees, an observation. Good observations should reach for the status of theory - using some mathematics and logic – whenever possible. Observations are possible without theories, but theories need observations, IMO. I’m sure that there must be some successful stock traders and gold buyers that, through simple observations, feel their way to profit; I however need some theory to help guide me along. <<TJ, do you have a price for gold, that if hit, would make you question the suggestion to “buy more gold”?>>not necessarily, because should gold hit $80 and a cup of coffee hit 2 cents, i would still allocate 10-15% of nav to gold. OK. This is my answer. One will always need to allocate some percentage of assets to gold no matter what the price.gold allocation is not a zero vs one, but a allocation continuum between 0 and 100, percent. i may change my mind, depending on the precise circumstances, should gold go to 80 and coffee also nears 80 a cup. OK. I guess you feel your way to a proper allocation for yourself. Thanks for the reply.
