One very positive result of the current situation is the substantial weakening of Putin's Russia who had very dangerous dreams of becoming a renewed superpower with the help from crude oil riches.

Very few are aware of the fact that one of the main reasons that energy prices went trough the roof this year is also thanks to Russia market manipulation efforts that brought its FX reserves to around 550 billion at the time.

The whole issue of the war in Georgia was to cut off the corridor that enabled the flow of crude oil and gas and other raw materials from Central Asia to Europe and the rest of the world.

Any one following my posts on SI would have learned of the anticipated developments including the Nabucco pipeline and the new commerce corridor from China to Europe all avoiding Russian territory. One more evidence is in the recent great interest of China in Turkey and Greece

The economic consequences will be huge in the future, leaving Russia on the sidelines as an observer unable to yield any meaningful political or military might on the two power centers – this is in a nutshell the summary of the whole Russian adventure in Georgia. IMHO Russia may try another desperate move which I hope will fail.

As a side comment Putin personal riches went the way of Russian Rubble and Moscow stock market – no wonder he is fuming
