I don't see any reason to leave it at a fiction. I don't believe that the gasoline and oil prices aren't effected or manipulated by government action, or that they are idealized perfect market prices. They are however much closer to a market price, unmanipulated by government, than at least the majority, and perhaps all or almost all, alternatives. As for the idea that my actual belief is naive, that's fiction as well.

You are the one who insists on being naive. How can you say that oil prices are mostly manipulated when everybody with a brain can see it drop like a rock with the downturn of the economy? They are predicting $25 oil soon. Don't you think the oil exporting states would downturn production a lot sooner if they were manipulating the market to the degree you seem to think they are?
