Let's just say that if we're going to move toward a more educated workforce in this huge society of ours, we need to let the free market figure it all out.

Are you under the impression that the employers are are looking for dumber work force? No, they are dying for more competent work force.

How can the free market figure this out? The job of educating children (future workers) is run under state monopoly. The employers get the output of the schools, but have no say in what quality that output is going to be.

The free market can draw students into certain fields by making them financially rewarding, but by the time a student graduates from high school, and is about to make a decision what to do next, many are already disqualified, having achieved only 5th or 6th grade level proficiency after 12 years of schooling.

Free market has no say in general educational level of the population. This has been completely taken over by the state. The free market is powerless.

Maybe you and I are on completely different wavelengths.

I think we are.
