cyesp, thanks, I wasn't thinking so much about seasonal issues but rather such things as day rates used for the drilling costs. Dan at Energy Prospectus (former controller for Amerada Hess) responded to my question by saying that these assumptions are basically "negotiated" between the company and its petroleum engineers and/or its financial auditors. This sounds like there is room to wiggle if a company can show where day rates are, even if such evidence has a January date on it. Ultimately it will depend on how the PE's and auditors interpret these rules I guess.
