Mona Charen is glossing over the ethical clouds hanging over many of Obama's appointees. She is correct in that they are not as leftwing as his carefully groomed reputation prior to the general campaign.

The fact that leftwinger Brooks* is impressed says much about them not being as centrist as some people seem to perceive them to be.

The appointment of Summers and the lack of outcry from the left says much about how partisan the left has become.

* Brooks is called conservative because as a moderately leftwing nut he looks conservative compared to the rest of the NYTimes.

Obama isn't appoint a bunch of conservatives.

But it is good news that apparently he isn't looking to the far left of this country's political landscape for people to appoint. He has announced that he will appoint a number of people who are moderates. Not exactly a conservative dream, but probably about as good as could reasonably be expected from a relatively liberal Democrat (I don't support the contention that he was the most liberal in the Senate, but he was far enough towards the left to reasonably be called a liberal rather than a moderate.)
