Such a drastic reorganization as suggested by Roubini would not be all too different from an old fashioned honest bankruptcy - without the need to pull an army of politicians into the process, and without spending tons of taxpayer's money.

Socializing the auto industry would be an expensive mess. Let them go down, bond and shareholders of failing enterprises would lose money, new owners would take over assets for pennies on the dollar - and life would go on, and the industry would be reborn - and renewed.
