I will extend my sympathies and not only that "my prayers and thoughts will be with you".

Thanks.

I'm sure a nuance is coming, if not more childish responses.

Bottom line, Intel isn't a union shop, you're screwed. If the industry I work for had the same cataclysmic scenario applied to it that the UAW receives from their supporters, lives would be lost.

I'd hope you've been planning for your layoff the day after you got hired. You should have a freshened up resume ready to mail out, cover letters lined up, references ready to speak on your behalf, a databased email list of potential employers ready to receive the same with the launching of a macro, and a network of fellow engineers you've been cultivating at every trade show you've been sent to to inform that your "on the market".

Not to mention having at least a year's worth of salary set back. You may regret the European ski vacations and permitting your wife to drink Fiji water.

Don't forget to apply for unemployment the minute you're laid off. At least you don't have any kids you're letting down.

Don't hate Intel - it's just business. Always was. You've never been anything more than a tool to them, easily unplugged, easily replaced. You've been there long enough that your compensation must be much higher than some engineer just out of school, younger, smarter, quicker to learn new technologies would be. Why not let that younger, cheaper guy get up to speed during this slow time?
