most unions strike one company in a sector to cut a contract that will be the practice for the others to settle. this is normal in the oil industry, ocaw ,, ge afl cio.. etc ..... it is cheaper for the union to strike one company and less costly than to support the whole industry out on strike.

gm was lazy, they were very profitable and could pass on any increased labor overhead, so why not settle and pass the costs along to the consumer. gm managers appeared to have unlimited expense accounts. At conventions had the top floors, largest rooms, biggest cocktail parties and footed wine and dine nightly plus fine dinners and shows.

i doubt any money given to these auto companies will help unless they can go into bankruptcy and clean up contracts with uaw and dealers.
