Humans are no longer conquering alpha male territorial dominance hierarchy primate tribes fighting in the jungle with young males to the front and kings, courtiers, women and children to the rear.

Of course we still are. Higher civilization has not changed the nature of man. I doubt if any war would last long enough now to make conscription necessary. But it was necessary at the time.

The reverse of conscription has resulted in whining the last few years about the lack of it. How our "poor" are fighting the wars for the "rich" without it. That has always been the way. You could buy your way out of it during our Civil war for $400.

Your overall problem is that you tend to judge yesterday by today's standards.

You remind me of how our Left constantly tries to badmouth our Founders for their holding of slaves and Jefferson's children from them. As if that negates the greatest social revolution in the history of the world.

The genius of our revolution is summed up in Tom Paine's "Common Sense." Which also caused the American revolution. What he explained was that mankind doesn't need a King.
