Only one thing drops coffee: Frost. And even that nowadays is rare. Here is why.

Coffee was planted in the best area for it (altitude and soil), in Parana state. But it was subject to frost.
You plant in the hill facing the east and the south at night it freezes.
The hill facing the north and the west, receive more sun, they are warmer and they don't get frost.

So they pulled out the coffe. Planted soy beans and move coffee to other northern areas like Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais states. But they once in a while they use frost to bid up their prices...
