If I remember correctly we are close to $0.50 in the State of Washington when you add up State and Federal for our gas taxes here per gallon.

That's federal only. You also have to add the state taxes.

The income received by government on all levels from oil oil, and refined products from oil, adds up to more than the profit of the American oil industry. Hardly a negligible impact.
