Exactly. There is conservation of energy, so the energy contained in a barrel of oil remains the same regardless of the mix of refined product.

The different situation is where Chevron uses both oil and natural gas to produce gasoline. As oil is more valuable, than natural gas, per BTU - this produces more refined product with the costly feedstock. Natural gas cannot be used to expand the output of diesel.
