He had been ill and not able to move around enough and I think that contributed to the clot.

PBS ran a two hour special on Mario Lanza Saturday. He died of a stroke at 38 in 1956. He had weight problems and used an Italian clinic to lose weight. Their method was to put you to bed and drug you so that you slept for month while not eating. He would lose 20 pounds doing so.

The last time he did it, when he got up a clot moved to his brain and killed him.
