This is what Michael Murphy, a "guru" of high-tech stocks (it seems ASND is a safe buy here whether you believe him or not):

Murphy doesn't believe the rumored Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) acquisition of Ascend
Communications (NASDAQ:ASND) will materialize. ''Lucent can get most of what it wants by
partnering with Ascend,'' he said. ''Also, why would Ascend want to sell out at this price when in
six months, with it getting its acquisition of Cascade under its belt and improving business, its stock
could be worth 50 percent more?''

Tomorrow may be a very quick day...Hong Kong was down 9.35%,
and Japan, Malaysia, Singapore were down significantly. The
drop in HK was worse than the 1987 stock market crash, and
even larger than the Tianemen (sp?) Square period.

S&P Future were knocked down more than 9 points from the close
yesterday at one point. Rising interest rates in SE Asia, while
still lower than US debt, may attract overseas interest...and
pressure US debt offerings.

However, I feel that many officials, especially in the US will
comment on how SE Asia's problems (esp. Malaysia, Thailand) are
isolated and will not/do not affect the US markets.

Let's look to see how Europe opens.
