Brumar, thanks for that. It gives a very interesting insight into things. I'm sure they also thought at that time that they could pretty much "buy" the Pakistani Military so they'd take care of things on their side of the border. WRONG AGAIN..... It's interesting that some people actually seemed concerned about maintaining "good" relations with the Afghani people living out there in "no man's land" at that time, but since then that sort of thing doesn't seem to have been a major concern.
