One note Yousef, you know one thing, the parameters of the Intel transistor and think its all that matters. You think that just because two processors have the same instruction set that their circuit design is the same. THE CIRCUIT DESIGN OF THE P2 AND K6 ARE NOT REMOTELY THE SAME. THE LAYOUTS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Does the P2 break instructions down into RISC86 instructions? No, it has its own proprietary RISC core. Everything about the two processors, except the instuction set they execute, is different, in fact, they are as different from eachother as the DEC Alpha is to either one of them.

Your equation is good for one thing only -- estimating the gate delay of a single gate, not comparing the performance of two microprocessors with completely different designs and layouts.
Concerning your "predictions":

Let's see if my predictions about:

1) AMD's .25um mobile CPU will be running below 266mhz AND

2) AMD's .25um desktop CPU will be running at/or below 300mhz.

While Intel will have their .25um desktop CPU's running at above 300mhz.


You've "stacked the deck" here, since you win if Intel runs at 333 MHz and AMD runs at 300 (an 11% difference). If your voltage equation is true, AMD's processors should be running x% slower than Intels (desktop or notebook), where "x" is the percentage by which operating voltage is higher.

You will lose this argument.
