They proably can't pay it off for a long time and neither can the US. We may need to inflate our way out. But the US cannot let its auto industry just die. It is the backbone of our manufacturing. what is left of it.

Government will have to straighten it out. Our economy is way to fragile to put auto bankruptsies on top of it. Too big a chance it will break the back.

Looking back at the great depression they can see what Hoover and FDR did wrong. they lollygqaged while 1/3rd of the banks failed along with everyone's money. 25 to 30% unemplyment, shanty towns and soup kitchens.

The US has to shore up and protect its economy. Had they done a stimulous package, just a fraction of what they spent on WWII, in 1929, and secured the banks, most feel a bad depression would have been avoided.
