The WWII infrastructure "the government built infrastrucure" certainly contributed to our financial success. But paying the workers a fair wage (per the New Deal), and they were usually just fair wages, allowed most people to live secure middle class lives and put their kids through college.

I grew up in California during these times and it was truly Ozzie and harriet world. Very serene. And in those days state universities were so cheap for residents we could work our way through college. I did.
