It could very well be that there was nothing untoward in the talks between Blagojevich and Team Obama. If so, why not be forthright, acknowledge the conversation(s), and move forward with transition planning? [It certainly shouldn't take days to get this together, and we certainly didn't need Obama and Axelrod telling different stories, with Axelrod having to do a recant.]

I think that the Obamas did refuse to do a quid pro quo for a preferred appointment and are dancing around the issue now because they should have reported Blago's misconduct in attempting to sell the seat.

IMO, it's the failure to report that worries them. I bet Blago was quite blatant about his expectations.

I don't think the Obamas tried to buy the seat. It's more likely that BO is drunk with a feeling of power at the moment and wouldn't even consider a payoff to a guy like Blago.

This would explain Blago's comments about Obama and would also explain Team Obama's disarray in how to address the potential scandal.

But, my goodness, if they can't figure out this one, how will they cope with a real crisis?
