Excellent research work in digging out the details and putting the puzzle together in your last several posts! Thanks. Intel is under a lot of scrutiny right now. In the broader view it can be easily argued that although Intel has obviously played a big part in furthering the industry that they have been anti-competitive and the industry and public would propser more if they did not have monopolistic control. The embodiment of this line of thought (theory of the case) is that if Intel was truly not monopolistic and looking out for the public good, then they would they would already have a whole catalog of MPUs and system architectures that would be similar to the C6 and Cyrix' MediaGX and low cost, highly capable systems would have been competiting against the modality of increasingly more expensive, ever more advertising motivated products. A blunt attach on IDT by Intel would be seen by many, and hopefully the justice department, as a blatant attempt to stem the tide of competition by intimidation through the feudalistic American court system.
